My dad doesn’t care about the finer things. He cares about quality only to the extent that an object fits well, looks good, and holds up over time. I wouldn’t call him frugal, but he’s not going out of his way to buy the “best” version of something, just a version that is trustworthy enough to do the job well. So, I’m tailoring these recommendations to him, in the hopes that the dads in your life are somewhat of the same mind.
Allevol Heavy Duty Square Pocket T-Shirt - $81
I’ve put this tee through the ringer these past couple weeks; weeding the walkway, walking the dogs, working out at home, getting shwifty at a bachelor party—it’s seen it all. Dads used to be able to grab a solid, heavy-duty tee just about anywhere, but these days the fits have gotten all weird, the fabric is cheaper, and the construction is sloppy. Allevol’s tees feature a solidly bound rib collar, tubular construction (eliminating itchy side seams for improved wear over time), and thick American-grown cotton, making them a worthwhile investment compared to other brands. The squared-off pocket is my ideal pocket shape, simple and utilitarian, just like this very versatile and dad-approved heather gray color.
Buck Mason Draped Linen Lounge Lizard Shirt - $168
I’m partial because I got to name this one, but every dad needs a sharp, straightforward going-out shirt, and this one is top-notch. Black linen is, as you already know, the classiest of options and also one of the most democratic. Best of all, it hides stains well, so he won’t have to worry about spilled drinks or anything like that.
Faherty All Day™ Short 2.0 (7") - $108
I own these myself, and despite all-purpose shorts sounding like a 7-in-1 bodywash take on clothing, I actually wear these a lot. Dads notoriously have bad swimwear choices, so this is an easy upgrade in ultra-comfortable, quick-drying stretch jersey with a zippered back pocket that’s big enough for his phone [just remind him to empty it before swimming].
